0:07In an earlier lesson, we talked about ways to say goodbye.
0:12We only had time for the formal ways, like goodbye and have a good day.
0:18Today we want to teach some informal ways to part from a friend.
0:23If you think you will see them soon, you might say, see you soon,
0:27or see ya soon.
0:30When we speak informally, we often use the reduced vowel, or schwa,
0:35which sounds like a.
0:37In writing, you might see this written with y-a, as in see ya later,
0:43or see you around.
0:45The structure for these expressions is verb with an optional preposition, plus you,
0:52plus time.
0:54Example, see you later.
0:57One example with a preposition is talk to you later.
1:02So we might say, see you tomorrow, or catch you next week.
1:08Sometimes we just use until with later, or another time word.
1:13For example, until tomorrow.
1:16I've heard people just say later.
1:19And sometimes we are saying goodbye to someone we don't expect to see again soon.
1:23In that case, we wish them well.
1:27At the goodbye party for Mary, I heard some of those.
1:31One was, take care of yourself and stay in touch.
1:36Right!
1:36If someone is leaving on a trip, you can wish them a safe journey with.
1:42Have a safe trip.
1:44Or we can say, drive safely.
1:47Well I have to go now, John.
1:49As our friend Anna says, until next time.
1:52Later, Jill.
1:55And that's Everyday Grammar.
